Black tie

When the invite says black tie you know that the affair is going to be an upmarket formal affair so you are going to have to wear a dinner suit (or as the Americans say – a tuxedo).

A dinner suit is not a particularly complicated ensemble but is very common at weddings. The main components are the dinner jacket (single breasted with ribbed silk facings on a shawl collar), trousers (with silk braids covering the outer seams), dress shirt (white with Marcella frontage and double cuffs), bow tie (black, which you can buy pre-tied) and smart polished black shoes (such as brogues).

You can hire a full dinner suit for a wedding (normally excludes the shirt) but if you know a couple of black tie events are coming up (and you don’t pile on the pounds) we would recommend purchasing a tuxedo. So it's time to wear black tie for a special occasion. Whenever a man puts on a smart dinner suit it shows, he looks like a part from the latest James Bond film. Thankfully now-a-days it's a lot easier to find a stylish and affordable tuxedo online.
